At Langland Community School, our aspirations for pupils with SEND are the same as for every child in our care. We recognise, however, that some pupils may require adaptations to teaching approaches and the pace of learning to ensure their individual needs are met.
We are committed to providing a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum for all. We hold high expectations for every pupil and work in partnership to remove barriers to learning so that each child can achieve their full potential. At Team Langland, we believe that the early identification of additional needs is vital in ensuring that timely, targeted and appropriate support is put in place whenever it is required.
To do this we must: -
- identify the child’s needs
- inform parents and carers
- have a means by which to implement an effective response, through an ‘assess, plan, do, review’ approach.
- record and monitor the effectiveness of any action taken.
- ensure that all curriculum planning includes strategies for meeting the needs of all children including those with special educational needs
- have a culture of encouragement, acceptance and respect for achievement and a sensitivity to individual needs in which children’s self-esteem and self-confidence grow and in which pupils feel that it is acceptable to make mistakes as they learn.
